Ever wondered what the differences are between smells? When dealing with odors, it’s important to distinguish which smell you’re dealing with as each has a different removal process. There are seven basic or primary odors:
6) Pungent (positive electrical charge)
7) Putrid (negative electrical charge)
Each of the seven primary odors is distinct. However, odors within each category are very similar. The first five primary odors each fit a receptor in the nose, just as a key fits a lock. The last two primary odors, pungent and putrid, are the only exceptions. Because these molecules are electrically charged (either positive or negative), they fit into smell receptors in a different way.
